~180 km including ferry crossing – perfect for a 2‑night safari
Tsavo East is Kenya's largest national park – over 13,700 km² of raw, untamed wilderness. Unlike the crowded Masai Mara, Tsavo offers a sense of solitude and genuine discovery. The park is famous for its "red elephants" – elephants that dust‑bathe in the park's volcanic soil, giving their skin a striking reddish‑brown hue found nowhere else on earth.
Your private safari takes you into the heart of this vast wilderness. The Galana River and Aruba Dam attract huge herds of elephants and buffalo, especially during the dry season (June–October). Lions (including the legendary maneless males of Tsavo), leopards, cheetahs, and over 500 bird species call this park home.
For history enthusiasts, Tsavo East is where the legendary "Man‑eaters of Tsavo" terrorised railway workers in 1898 – a story immortalised in books and films. The park's wild, untamed atmosphere hasn't changed since.
Watamu's beaches are paradise – turquoise water, white sand, and lazy days under the sun. But adding 2–3 nights in Tsavo East changes everything. It turns a simple beach holiday into a complete Kenya safari & beach experience.
Our guests often tell us: "We came for the beach, but the safari was the highlight of our trip." There's something magical about watching a herd of red elephants at sunset, knowing that you'll be back on the beach in a few hours.
Tsavo East is close enough that you don't lose a full day to travel. You can do 2 nights, 3 nights, or even a day trip (though we recommend at least 2 nights to really experience the park). The combination of beach relaxation and raw wilderness is what makes Kenya unique.
